A Letter from Our Director

Hello Boys and Girls! Director Jill here!

I am getting so excited about our upcoming Vacation Bible School week! This year, we’re going to be talking about Psalm 23! It is a passage in the Bible written by David, and it tells us all about Jesus, who is our Shepherd.

Perhaps some of you know this about me already, but my family and I have goats. They are Nubian goats, which are a dairy breed of goat, so they give lots of milk! They have long floppy ears, and they are just the cutest things–well, I think so anyway!

Every morning and every night, I go out to the barn to feed my goats. They need grain, hay, and fresh water. Sometimes I give them special treats like corn, watermelon, or even oatmeal cream pie cookies!

Sometimes my goats get sick, and I need to give them medicine. They need shots every year to stay healthy, and I even have to clip their toenails!! Well, they’re actually called hooves, but it’s the same as getting your toenails clipped.

I love taking care of my goats. They hear me open the barn door, or I call out to them, and they come running over. They depend on me for their food and water. They can’t get out of their pen and get their own grain every day. They can’t reach the water hose to turn it on for fresh water, and they certainly can’t get in the car and go to the store for their medicine or clip their own hooves!! They depend on me for everything they need to stay alive and healthy. That’s such a big responsibility for my family and me, but it’s also so humbling and rewarding to see our goats in good health. My kids actually show them at the local fair, and I love to see them compete well against other goats and win ribbons! They give us much joy!

I think having goats of my own and taking care of them is one of the reasons I am so super excited to learn more with you at VBS this year, as we understand how Jesus is our shepherd!!  Every day that I go out to care for my goats, I am reminded of how Jesus is our good Shepherd and how he takes such good care of us!

David writes so beautifully in Psalm 23 about how Jesus rescued us, we were once lost and are now found and belong to Him. We sometimes stray onto the wrong paths–but our Shepherd leads and guides us back to the right path. When we are afraid, our Shepherd comforts us and promises to be our protector. He takes care of us! We have so much to be thankful for in Him, and His promises are true! When we belong to the great Shepherd, we don’t have to worry.

I can’t wait for you to join us as we learn more about sheep and Psalm 23 on a Celtic adventure!

See you at Bible School!
